Sedum spurium

Sedum spurium ‘Dragon’s Blood’ and ‘Fuldaglut’
are two excellent groundcovers. The burgundy scalloped foliage darkens
in cold weather; both have mid pink clusters of bloom held above
the foliage.

I like them draping over a rock wall, but they look equally good
planted near a patio to soften the edge. I also grow them in coco
fiber lined hanging baskets, where they stay in permanent position
on the Circle of Thymus Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi. The difference
between the two is slight, Dragon’s Blood has a darker foliage
colour in cold weather and darker red underleaf, but for all intents
and purposes, they are very close in size and spread. I like them
in combination with another spurium, this one with very pale green
foliage and blooms I have yet to see, I’m anticipating a paler
pink than the two above, as it seems the darker the foliage the
darker the bloom. It’s not as vigorous, but the occasional
lime green leaf cluster among the burgundy and bronze of the other
two is eye-catching. The final one in the group is S. spurium album
superbum, the white blooming form. Again, the paler foliage and
flower making the contrast more marked against the red foliaged
forms.
