Mid October is such a fun time. Kids are back at school, and well immersed in their studies. There might be Halloween activities starting to happen.

I advocate getting at least a couple of good walks in, where you can collect fall leaves for your crafts. Even if you don't use them right away, you can soak them in glycerin. This age old technique will preserve them for later use, and you would be amazed at the things you can do with them, like make tiny shingles for a miniature house for your terracotta fairy garden . I've seen gorgeous paintings on leaves, after they are coated with white acrylic paint to seal them. They are easy to press between two sheets of wax paper and displayed in the window - they are like short lived stained glass panels.

There are many ways to celebrate Halloween, like making some vintage halloween decorations to spookify your porch. Kids love to go to the houses on their block that make the effort to be really scary. A pumpkin headed scarecrow sitting in a twig chair, a witch with terrifying claws for hands, it's all good. Hand out that candy with a clear conscience that you've done your best work.
