BoHo Window Coverings

Extremely Unique Privacy Curtains

When you need some privacy due to feral children peeking in the windows, and you don't have any suitable fabric, you make some BoHo Window Coverings instead of the lacy sheers you envision. And take it to the next level of bohemian vibe.

Irish hand made lace would be my first choice, but there's none available in the craft supplies. So raiding all the fabric in Rubbermaid tubs is in order.

There's a bit of sheeting salvaged from the making of a duvet cover. Some bias cut muslin that's left over from lining curtains (don't ask me why it got bias cut, that's another story).

In addition to the fabric, I have some different weights of jute cord and rope, so that's going into the mix. And, some wooden beads in many different sizes that are meant for a project that got put on hold.

I also have one panel of a thick cotton lace, which was bought  by mistake a long time ago, returned, but then appeared in the mail, returned to sender.

No explanation given, but it made the trip all the way to China where it originated, then back again. So much time has elapsed that it's impossible for me to track it down, so I'll use it in this project. It does say this in the description;

So I think it's safe to say it will suit this project.

Other than that, some burlap cut into strips, strategically knotted, then washed. I've made burlap curtains out of old feed sacks, but this is the first time I've used new fabric - it's a whole new ball game, with the sizing still in the roughly woven jute fabric.

A few other surprise additions should see this project well under way.

To hang all this as a cafe style curtain, I fortunately had a second long curtain rod which is actually short pieces screwed together in whichever configuration is required, and some large eye hooks that will work to hold the rod. I may have to stretch the hooks open a bit to fit the rod.

The rod might need some additional help in the middle so it doesn't sag, but that's easy - jute string, with a couple more cup hooks, and it's good to go.

I'm eager to get this project done, not only to prevent the feral children and other folks walking along the road from seeing into my living room, but for the satisfaction of finally using some of my craft hoard. I didn't buy one thing for this project, it was all stuff I had already. That makes it even better.
